Module 2:
Courage 3-2-1 Technique

Excerpt from The Qortex Circuit: Train Your Brain for Joy and Transformation by Ed Kang

There’s a method to “tricking” the brain for transformation and bypassing any hardwired resistance. It involves training the body’s nervous systems to regulate the stress response that fights change. It’s a method that disrupts old patterns, priming the brain for new inputs.

The method is a breathing and meditation exercise I call the “Courage 3-2-1” technique. Think of it as a boot camp for your brain. It takes less than ten minutes, and you’ll experience changes immediately. I’m going to ask you to do it daily. It’s also a coaching exercise you can quickly teach others.

Technique Overview

The central premise of the “Courage 3-2-1” technique involves combining breathing, meditation, and metacognition techniques to reset the brain and prime it for disruption (changing inputs to shift the outlook). On the most basic level, this starts with deep breathing, almost intentionally hyperventilating to get enough oxygen to your body and brain. It’s designed to increase mindfulness and create an internal locus of control. You’ll also repeat emotional vocabulary to train your brain for emotional intelligence.

Give the “Courage 3-2-1” technique a try when you’re ready. Then watch how the technique is incorporated into our coaching.
